SNMPv3 Trap Hosts

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a standard protocol for monitoring and alerting at both system and device levels. This feature allows a controller or super-admin to configure a secure SNMPv3 trap destination so external Network Management Systems (NMS) can receive system alerts.

These alerts include system health and audit events, helping you detect issues early and take action before they escalate.

A10 Control supports SNMPv3 trap configuration at two levels:

• Controller level - Provides node-specific system level alerts for CPU, memory, and disk usage across the cluster. Default alert thresholds: CPU 80%, Memory 80%, Disk 85%.
• Organization level - Captures and reports DDoS mitigation-related events within the ADO application.

NOTE:

Only SNMPv3 is supported for secure authentication and encryption. A10 Control supports up to 2 SNMP trap hosts per configuration.

Best Practices for SNMPv3 Trap Host Configuration

• Always use SNMPv3 with authentication and encryption (SHA + AES recommended).
• Configure only the required trap hosts (up to 2).
• Use strong, unique credentials for SNMPv3 users and rotate them periodically.
• Ensure the trap receiver IP and port (162) are reachable and secured.
• Test trap delivery after configuration using tools like MIB Browser or tcpdump.

To view and manage SNMP settings for the Controller level, navigate to A10 Control home page > Controller scope > Settings> System > Notifications > SNMP.

On the SNMPv3 Trap Hosts page, you can perform the following:

• Download MIBs: Click to download the A10 Control MIBs.
• SNMPv3 Trap Hosts: Use the Toggle button to enable or disable sending trap notifications through SNMP.
  • Enabled: Sends SNMPv3 trap delivery to all configured trap hosts.
  • Disabled: Stops SNMPv3 trap delivery to all configured trap hosts.
• Refresh: Click to load the latest trap hosts.
• Add an SNMPv3 Trap Host: Click + Add to create an SNMP trap host.
• Other Actions: Under the Kebab menu of the selected entry, you can perform the following:

  • Edit: Click to modify the SNMP trap host. On the Edit SNMPv3 Trap Hosts page, edit the required details and click Save.
    A confirmation message is displayed.
    

  • Delete: Click to delete the SNMP Trap Host. The Delete Host pop-up appears. Click Yes.
    A confirmation message is displayed.
