Add an SNMPv3 Trap Host

Adding an SNMP host allows your system to send SNMP traps (alerts) to a designated Network Management System (NMS) or trap receiver.

To create a trap host:

  1. On the Add SNMPv3 Trap Hosts page, enter the following details:

    Create an organization

    Field

    Description

    Trap Host

    An IPv4 host address to which the trap will be sent.

    Port A port number of trap receiver host.
    Username

    An SNMPv3 username for authentication.

    Engine ID

    An ID for the SNMPv3 protocol engine.

    Authentication Type:

    noAuthNoPriv
    (No Authentication, No Privacy)

    In this type, traps are neither authenticated nor encrypted.

    authNoPriv
    (Authentication, No Privacy)

    In this type, traps are authenticated but not encrypted. When authNoPriv is selected, the following fields are displayed:

    • Authentication Protocol
      From this drop-down list, select SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm) or MD5 (Message Digest). The recommended algorithm is SHA1.
    • Authentication Password

      In this field, enter your password. The password can be 8 to 20 characters long. It can contain the following characters: a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9, and special characters such as !@#$%^&*().

    authPriv
    (Authentication and Privacy)

    In this type, traps are both authenticated and encrypted. When authPriv is selected, the following fields are displayed:

    • Authentication Protocol:
      From this drop-down list, select SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm) or MD5 (Message Digest). The recommended algorithm is SHA1.
    • Authentication Password
      In this field, enter your password. The password can be 8 to 20 characters long. It can contain the following characters: a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9, and special characters such as !@#$%^&*().
    • Privacy Protocol
      From this drop-down list, select DES (Data Encryption Standard) or AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). The recommended Encryption algorithm is AES.
    • Privacy Passphrase
      In this field, enter the password. The password can be 8 to 20 characters long. It can contain the following characters: a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9, and special characters such as !@#$%^&*().

  2. Click Save.

    A floating notification, ‘SNMPv3 Trap Host information updated successfully’, appears. The new trap host configuration is now displayed on the SNMPv3 Trap Hosts page.

    By default, the trap notifications are enabled for the ADO app.
